The Adelaide Art Orchestra has covered an extraordinary range of activities since its inception in 2001.  Please find below a precis of all of our performances, year-by-year.

2013

  • March - ADELAIDE FESTIVAL - three different concerts on consecutive nights in March -  supporting Brassland and Friends; Padma Newsome and Clogs; ending with Van Dyke Parks, Daniel Johns and Kimbra.
  • March - 2013 BUNDALEER FESTIVAL - Twilight concert featuring soprano Greta Bradman, tenor Rosario La Spina and 16 members of the State Opera Chorus.
  • April - ODE TO NONSENSE - world premiere season of a new operatic work for families, featuring the combined resources of State Opera and Slingsby Theatre Company. 
  • June - 2013 ADELAIDE CABARET FESTIVAL - multiple performances supporting Shane Warne - The Musical, Gala Variety Performance, Kristin Chenoweth, Molly Ringwald, Darren Percival, Tommy Bradson, Helen Morse, John O'May, Lucy Maunder, Catherine Alcorn, Paul McDermott, Tyran Parke, Lady Rizo, Kate Ceberano, Teddy Tahu Rhodes and Idina Menzel.
  • July - OPERA GALA CONCERT tour to Regional Centres of Mount Gambier, Renmark and Tanunda. Featured members of the State Opera Chorus and the Adelaide Art Orchestra.
  • November - SUNDAY LIVE - Free concert broadcast at ABC Classic FM's Collinswood Studio on November 3 - featuring 16 AdAO players and 12 members of the State Opera Chorus.
  • December - ADELAIDE FESTIVAL CENTRE CHRISTMAS PROMS - 4 performances in the Adelaide Festival Theatre with a Broadway theme, together with the Follies Five singers, featuring guest artists Chelsea Gibb and Mitchell Butel.

2012

  • January - WATERSONG - an open-air concert with members of the State Opera Chorus held on the wharf at Signal Point, Goolwa. This was part of the 2012 Goolwa Regional Centre of Culture celebrations. Audience was estimated to be 4000 patrons.
  • January - A CHORUS LINE - provision of a 17 piece orchestra for the popular musical's summer season at the Adelaide Festival Theatre.
  • June - 2012 ADELAIDE CABARET FESTIVAL - multiple performances including concerts with Lea Salonga, Ben Vereen, Debra Byrne, Johanna Allen, Mark Nadler, Sherie Renee Scott and Tommy Bradson.
  • September - STATE OPERA COUNTRY TOUR - concerts performed in Port Pirie, Whyalla and Port Lincoln with members of the State Opera chorus.
  • November - ABC CLASSIC FM LIVE BROADCAST - Sunday Live concert, featuring 19 of our players with 12 members of the State Opera Chorus, performing a mixture of opera choruses, arias and musical theatre songs.
  • December - ADELAIDE FESTIVAL CENTRE CHRISTMAS PROMS - 6 performances in Her Majesty's Theatre in 24 piece swing orchestra mode, performing Glenn Miller tunes as well as Christmas Carols, with the Chatanooga Crooners and special guests, Johanna Allen and Andy Seymour.

 

2011

  • January - ODE TO NONSENSE - workshops and recording of new children's opera by Quincy Grant for State Opera and Slingsby Productions.
  • April - BUNDALEER FOREST - concerts with Silvia Paladino, David Hobson, Andy Firth and James Morrison in the Bundaleer Forest in Jamestown, SA.
  • May - MAGNIFICO! STATE OPERA CHORUS CONCERT - showcase concert with the State Opera of SA Chorus in the Adelaide Town Hall
  • June - 2011 ADELAIDE CABARET FESTIVAL - multiple performances including concerts with Olivia Newton-John, Glenn Shorrock, Mark Nadler, Mark Vincent, Chita Rivera, Tim Draxl, Rachael Beck & Ian Stenlake, Rhonda Burchmore and Michael Feinstein.
  • November - THE KING IS DEAD - FILM SCORE RECORDING - recording of film score for The King is Dead - directed by Rolf De Heer.
  • December - ADELAIDE FESTIVAL CENTRE CHRISTMAS PROMS - 4 concerts with Marina Prior, Bernard Walz and the Adelaide Vocal Project, conducted by Timothy Sexton. 

2010

  • April - SYMPHONY OF ANGELS - concert with the rock group The Angels at the Adelaide Festival Theatre
  • May - THE BEST OF BROADWAY - charity performance for Blackwood Rotary Club at Blackwood Recreation Centre
  • June - 2010 ADELAIDE CABARET FESTIVAL - multiple performances including concerts with Natalie Cole, Robyn Archer, Donna McKechnie, Diesel, David Hobson, Trevor Ashley, Liz Callaway, Hugh Sheridan and Alex Rathgeber
  • June - DIFFERENT FIELDS - members of the AdAO with Singular Productions in the Australian premiere of the football opera Different Fields, conducted by Timothy Sexton
  • October - MARIA DE BUENOS AIRES - South Australian premiere of Astor Piazzolla's tango opera with State Opera of SA and Leigh Warren and Dancers staged in the Dunstan Playhouse, conducted by Timothy Sexton
  • November - ADVANTAGE SA SOUTH AUSTRALIAN OF THE YEAR ANNUAL DINNER - performance with Kate Ceberano in the Adelaide Entertainment Centre
  • November - BRILLIANT BROADWAY - 3 charity performances for Adelaide West Rotary Club and Grote Street Precinct at Elder Hall, featuring the Adelaide Broadway Singers with conductor Timothy Sexton
  • November - OPERA AT THE MINES - I PAGLIACCI - 3 performances of the Leoncavallo's opera with State Opera of SA at Moonta, as part of the region's sesquicentenary.

  • June - 2009 ADELAIDE CABARET FESTIVAL - multiple performances including major concerts with Bernadette Peters (recorded and broadcast by Foxtel on the Ovation channel).  Other artists and events supported by the AdAO and its members included Grace Knight, Hugh Sheridan, Robyn Archer, Nick Christo and the Gala Premiere concert.
  • September - GLENN MILLER AND FRIENDS - 2 charity performances for Adelaide West Rotary Club and Grote Street Precinct at Adelaide Town Hall, featuring the Adelaide Radio Singers with conductor Timothy Sexton
  • November - AUSRAIL DINNER - major performance for the national AUSRAIL conference at the Adelaide Convention Centre, featuring the AdAO with the State Opera Chorus.

  • May - LITTLE WOMEN - Australian premiere of Mark Adamo's opera with State Opera of SA conducted by Timothy Sexton at the Dunstan Playhouse
  • May - MUSIC ON THE MURRAY - celebration of fine music on the banks of the Murray River at Waikerie with Pot Pourri, the Adelaide Philharmonia Chorus and combined Riverland choirs.
  • June - ADELAIDE CABARET FESTIVAL - multiple events including supporting internationals Tony DeSare, Caroline Nin and Michael Feinstein as well as Australian artists Alan Brough, Kaye Tuckerman and Paul Capsis, all in the Adelaide Festival Centre.
  • July - DUKE ELLINGTON AND FRIENDS - the next in the series of AdAO radio shows with the Adelaide Vocal Project and the Senior Vocal Ensemble from Young Adelaide Voices, in Elder Hall, University of Adelaide.
  • August - ELVIS MEETS THE BEATLES - supporting international Elvis impersonator Max Pellicano and the Australian cover band The Beatniks in the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
  • October - GREEK ODYSSEY CONCERT - the second annual celebration of Greek music with various guest artists - Adelaide Town Hall

  • June - THE RAT PACK'S BACK -  as part of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival in the Dunstan Playhouse

  • September - ORCHESTRAL FANTASIES - concert of classical works by Ravel, Copland, Holst, Britten and Vaughan Williams in Elder Hall.
  • October - COLE PORTER AND FRIENDS - new 'radio show' by Timothy Sexton based around the music of Cole Porter and featuring the Adelaide Vocal Project.

2003

  • February - UNITOPIA - recording of original classical/world music fusion CD with Sean Timms.
  • April - MUSIC ON THE MURRAY - inaugural concert on the River Murray at Waikerie with the Adelaide Philharmonia Chorus, the combined Riverland choirs with soprano Deborah Caddy and baritone David Thelander.
  • June - JASON ROBERT BROWN - featured concert performances with Broadway composer Jason Robert Brown as part of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
  • July - EAST MEETS WEST - concert including the SA premiere of John Adams Piano Concerto - 'Century Rolls' with pianist Alexander Hanysz and works by Bernstein, Gershwin, Prokofiev Gershwin and Rachmaninov, held in Elder Hall, Adelaide University.
  • August - THE JOY OF MUSIC - an original concert work for children by Timothy Sexton performed as part of the Something on Saturday Series at the Dunstan Playhouse.
  • October/November - GERSHWIN AND FRIENDS COUNTRY TOUR - Country Arts SA tour with soprano Kirsti Harms and conductor Timothy Sexton touring to the six major South Australian regional centres of Whyalla, Port Pirie, Port Lincoln, Mount Gambier, Renmark and Tanunda.
  • December - A CHRISTMAS WALZ - concert of Christmas music with the acclaimed pianist and entertainer Bernard Walz held at Elder Hall, Adelaide University.

2002

  • April - TILL HUMAN VOICES WAKE US - film score for Paramount Pictures movie starring Helena Bonham-Carter and Guy Pearce.
  • April - CELLO DREAMING - concert of contemporary works by Sculthorpe, Stravinsky and Liebermann held in Elder Hall, Adelaide University.
  • June - PETER AND THE WOLF/CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS - concert performance as part of the Something on Saturday Series at the Dunstan Playhouse.
  • June - FORBIDDEN BROADWAY - performances with the New York cast at the Adelaide Festival Theatre as part of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
  • August - GERSHWIN AND FRIENDS - inaugural 'radio show' concert with the AdAO and the Adelaide Vocal Project in Elder Hall, Adelaide University.
  • August - FLOREY MEDICAL RESEARCH FOUNDATION DINNER - charity performance for medical research, held in Bonython Hall.
  • September - JOSHUA - SA premiere of Handel's oratorio with the Adelaide Philharmonia Chorus, the Adelaide University Choral Society and conductor Graham Abbott.
  • October - MOSES - THE SPIRIT OF FREEDOM - concert performance including premiere of music by Peter Wyllie Johnson as part of Barossa International Music Festival.
  • November - ROMEO AND JULIET - ballet performances with the State Ballet of Russia held at the Adelaide Festival Theatre.

2001

  • October - SLEEPING BEAUTY - ballet performances with the Moscow State Ballet, held at Her Majesty's Theatre.
  • November - ALLEGRO - official inaugural concert for the launch of the Adelaide Art Orchestra held at Christ Church, North Adelaide and featuring works of Vasks, Bartok, Colgrass, Sculthorpe, Smetana and Elgar.
