The Adelaide Art Orchestra has covered an extraordinary range of activities since its inception in 2001.  Please find below a precis of all of our performances, year-by-year.

2007

  • JanuaryPIRATES OF PENZANCE with David Campbell, David Hobson and Taryn Fiebig in the Opera Australia production held at the Adelaide Festival Theatre.
  • January - THE TEN TENORS in two performances at the Adelaide Festival Theatre
  • May - LITTLE WOMEN - Australian premiere of Mark Adamo's opera with State Opera of SA conducted by Timothy Sexton at the Dunstan Playhouse
  • May - MUSIC ON THE MURRAY - celebration of fine music on the banks of the Murray River at Waikerie with Pot Pourri, the Adelaide Philharmonia Chorus and combined Riverland choirs.
  • June - ADELAIDE CABARET FESTIVAL - multiple events including supporting internationals Tony DeSare, Caroline Nin and Michael Feinstein as well as Australian artists Alan Brough, Kaye Tuckerman and Paul Capsis, all in the Adelaide Festival Centre.
  • July - DUKE ELLINGTON AND FRIENDS - the next in the series of AdAO radio shows with the Adelaide Vocal Project and the Senior Vocal Ensemble from Young Adelaide Voices, in Elder Hall, University of Adelaide.
  • August - ELVIS MEETS THE BEATLES - supporting international Elvis impersonator Max Pellicano and the Australian cover band The Beatniks in the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
  • October - GREEK ODYSSEY CONCERT - the second annual celebration of Greek music with various guest artists - Adelaide Town Hall
  • December - HANDEL'S MESSIAH - with the Adelaide Philharmonia Chorus, soloists Greta Bradman (s), Cherie Boogaart (a), Robert MacFarlane (t) and David Hayton (b) with conductor Graham Abbott - Elder Hall, University of Adelaide
  • December - ADELAIDE FESTIVAL CENTRE CHRISTMAS PROMS - 3 performances with guest artists Rachael Beck and Andy Seymour and conductor Timothy Sexton - Adelaide Festival Theatre

2006

  • January - AFRICAN SANCTUS with the 57th Intervarsity Choral Festival, conducted by Timothy Sexton in the ASO Grainger Studio.
  • February - ISRAEL IN EGYPT with the 57th Intervarsity Choral Festival, conducted by Graham Abbott in the Adelaide Festival Theatre, with soloist Sally-Anne Russell.
  • February - DAVID HOBSON CONCERT with Greg Mills - a corporate engagement for Wattyl Paints at the Adelaide Hilton International.
  • MarchMS ROTARY BALL - a fundraising performance for the Whyalla Rotary Club.
  • April - AHRENS 100th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION - Engagement with Rhonda Burchmore with Ray Alldridge and Dale Ringland held in the Adelaide Convention Centre.
  • May - FAY GERARD's 60th BIRTHDAY - Private engagement with guest artists Marina Prior and Rob Guest at the Adelaide Hilton International
  • June2006 ADELAIDE CABARET FESTIVAL - various engagements including Todd McKenney, Flat on you Bacharach, Gregg Arthur, Donny Ray Evins, Camille O'Sullivan and Fiona Thorn.
  • June - AUSTRALIAN TOURISM SHOWCASE at the Adelaide Festival Theatre with guest artists from the Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
  • June - AUSTRALIAN TOURISM SHOWCASE at the Adelaide Town Hall with guest artists Lucifer's Lounge.
  • JulyGLENN MILLER AND FRIENDS - the third in the popular radio show series at Elder Hall, Adelaide University with the Adelaide Vocal Project as guests.
  • September - FESTIVAL OF CONTEMPORARY MUSIC - three different concerts on three consecutive nights at the Opera Studio - Netley - Concert 1: GRAND PIANOLA MUSIC: Concert 2:- GLASS AND THINGS FOR BRASS AND STRINGS: Concert 3: SEPTEMBER SYMPHONY with the Adelaide Vocal Project, Amicus String Quartet, Brass Adelaide, Arabesque and pianists Carolyn Lam and Nerissa Van Nek.
  • October - FROM BACH TO BROADWAY - sponsor performance in association with State Opera of SA, Adelaide Youth Orchestra and United Utilities Australia at the Noarlunga TAFE Theatre
  • October - SHALL WE DANCE - 4 concert/dance cabaret performances with soprano Deborah Caddy at Shedley Theatre - Elizabeth; Marion Cultural Centre; Golden Grove Arts Centre and 'the arts centre' - Port Noarlunga.
  • October - GREEK ODYSSEY - celebratory concert in the Adelaide Town Hall with members of the Greek community.
  • October - VESPERAE - concert of the music of Mozart to celebrate the 250th anniversary of his birth.  Soloist Jessica Dean with the St. Peter's Cathedral Choir at St. Peter's Cathedral.
  • November/December - STATE OPERA DOUBLE BILL - 4 performances of Mozart's Bastien and Bastienne and Poulenc's La Voix Humaine as part of the Opera Studio programme, with Deborah Caddy, Sky Ingram, Adam Goodburn, David Thelander and conductor Timothy Sexton.
  • November - ABC CLASSIC FM SUNDAY LIVE - live broadcast of the music of Glenn Miller from Rolf Binder Wines at Veritas Winery, Tanunda (broadcast delayed until 2007 due to technical difficulties)
  • December - ADELAIDE FESTIVAL CENTRE CHRISTMAS PROMS - 2 performances in the Festival Theatre with guests Emily Burke, Dennis Olsen, the Adelaide Vocal Project and Johanna Allen with compere Brenton Whittle and conductor Timothy Sexton.

2005

  • January - THE MIKADO - Opera Australia/AFCT co-production with Anthony Warlow, Judi Connelli and David Hobson in the Adelaide Festival Theatre with conductor Timothy Sexton.
  • January - TSUNAMI BENEFIT CONCERT - with leading guest artists in Elder Park.
  • March - BARON/BONETT WEDDING - Private reception in the Adelaide Town Hall with 26-piece orchestra.
  • March - MUSIC ON THE MURRAY - major outdoor concert at Waikerie, SA, with the Adelaide Philharmonia Chorus, the combined Riverland choirs, conductor Timothy Sexton and guest artist Julie Anthony.
  • May - SOUTH PACIFIC! - Seabiscuit production at the Adelaide Festival Theatre with John Diedrich, conducted by Guy Noble.
  • June - AUSTRALIA'S LEADING LADIES - Adelaide Cabaret Festival production with Rhonda Burchmore, Judi Connelli, Marina Prior, Toni Lamond, Nancye Hayes and Anne Wood.
  • June - ANN HAMPTON CALLAWAY - with the 16-piece AdAO Big Band as part of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
  • June - ANDREW LIPPA - THE WILD PARTY - world premiere concert version of a new Broadway musical as part of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
  • June - BASIL SELLARS - 70th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION - with Henry Olonga, Marina Prior, Rob Guest and BSG (Birtles, Shorrock, Goble) - the original members of The Little River Band with conductor Timothy Sexton.
  • June - MY FUNNY VALENTINES - with Rhonda Burchmore as part of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
  • June - FLOREY MEDICAL RESEARCH FOUNDATION CONCERT - charity concert in Elder Hall with the SA Police Credit Union Choir.
  • July - ENCORE - a Swamp Fairy production with Doug Parkinson in the Norwood Concert Hall.
  • July - MUSIC FOR A RAINY DAY - performance for children held in the Dunstan Playhouse as part of the Something on Saturday Series.
  • July - MIDNITE - music theatre/opera for children performed by Windmill Performing Arts in the Dunstan Playhouse.
  • September - REFLECTIONS ON GLASS - collaboration with the Award winning Adelaide Vocal Project in music of Philip Glass, Peteris Vasks and Morten Lauridsen, held in the Masonic Centre, Adelaide
  • November - ABC CLASSIC FM - SUNDAY LIVE BROADCAST - a one hour live broadcast of the radio show 'Gershwin and Friends', with the Adelaide Vocal Project and guests.
  • December - JS BACH - CHRISTMAS ORATORIO - concert with the Adelaide Philharmonia Chorus and soloists with conductor Timothy Sexton in Elder Hall.

2004

  • January - STATE DINNER FOR THE LAUNCH OF THE GHAN - with Lucifer's Lounge in the Hyatt Regency, Adelaide.
  • April - GAWLER GOURMET AND HERITAGE FESTIVAL - major outdoor concert with the Adelaide Philharmonia Chorus and guest soloists Deborah Caddy and Adam Goodburn.
  • May - SA VOLUNTEERS DAY CONCERT - held in the Adelaide Festival Theatre.
  • June - COMBO FIASCO - as part of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
  • June - SYMPHONIC BEATLES - with Glenn Shorrock, Catherine Lambert, Andy Seymour and the Fab Four with conductor Timothy Sexton in the Adelaide Town Hall as part of the inaugural Australian Beatles Festival.
  • June - THE RAT PACK'S BACK -  as part of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival in the Dunstan Playhouse
  • June - CLOSER THAN EVER - musical with the AdAO and the Broadway composer/lyricist team of David Shire and Richard Maltby Jnr in the Dunstan Playhouse.
  • June - PASTEL VESPA - as part of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
  • June - TAKE FLIGHT - world premiere of the new musical by Broadway's Maltby and Shire, in the Dunstan Playhouse as part of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
  • July - MORNING MELODIES - MEET THE ADELAIDE ART ORCHESTRA - held in the Adelaide Festival Theatre.
  • July - WINTER WONDERLAND - performance for children in the Adelaide Festival Theatre as part of the Something on Saturday Series.
  • September - ORCHESTRAL FANTASIES - concert of classical works by Ravel, Copland, Holst, Britten and Vaughan Williams in Elder Hall.
  • October - COLE PORTER AND FRIENDS - new 'radio show' by Timothy Sexton based around the music of Cole Porter and featuring the Adelaide Vocal Project.

2003

  • February - UNITOPIA - recording of original classical/world music fusion CD with Sean Timms.
  • April - MUSIC ON THE MURRAY - inaugural concert on the River Murray at Waikerie with the Adelaide Philharmonia Chorus, the combined Riverland choirs with soprano Deborah Caddy and baritone David Thelander.
  • June - JASON ROBERT BROWN - featured concert performances with Broadway composer Jason Robert Brown as part of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
  • July - EAST MEETS WEST - concert including the SA premiere of John Adams Piano Concerto - 'Century Rolls' with pianist Alexander Hanysz and works by Bernstein, Gershwin, Prokofiev Gershwin and Rachmaninov, held in Elder Hall, Adelaide University.
  • August - THE JOY OF MUSIC - an original concert work for children by Timothy Sexton performed as part of the Something on Saturday Series at the Dunstan Playhouse.
  • October/November - GERSHWIN AND FRIENDS COUNTRY TOUR - Country Arts SA tour with soprano Kirsti Harms and conductor Timothy Sexton touring to the six major South Australian regional centres of Whyalla, Port Pirie, Port Lincoln, Mount Gambier, Renmark and Tanunda.
  • December - A CHRISTMAS WALZ - concert of Christmas music with the acclaimed pianist and entertainer Bernard Walz held at Elder Hall, Adelaide University.

2002

  • April - TILL HUMAN VOICES WAKE US - film score for Paramount Pictures movie starring Helena Bonham-Carter and Guy Pearce.
  • April - CELLO DREAMING - concert of contemporary works by Sculthorpe, Stravinsky and Liebermann held in Elder Hall, Adelaide University.
  • June - PETER AND THE WOLF/CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS - concert performance as part of the Something on Saturday Series at the Dunstan Playhouse.
  • June - FORBIDDEN BROADWAY - performances with the New York cast at the Adelaide Festival Theatre as part of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
  • August - GERSHWIN AND FRIENDS - inaugural 'radio show' concert with the AdAO and the Adelaide Vocal Project in Elder Hall, Adelaide University.
  • August - FLOREY MEDICAL RESEARCH FOUNDATION DINNER - charity performance for medical research, held in Bonython Hall.
  • September - JOSHUA - SA premiere of Handel's oratorio with the Adelaide Philharmonia Chorus, the Adelaide University Choral Society and conductor Graham Abbott.
  • October - MOSES - THE SPIRIT OF FREEDOM - concert performance including premiere of music by Peter Wyllie Johnson as part of Barossa International Music Festival.
  • November - ROMEO AND JULIET - ballet performances with the State Ballet of Russia held at the Adelaide Festival Theatre.

2001

  • October - SLEEPING BEAUTY - ballet performances with the Moscow State Ballet, held at Her Majesty's Theatre.
  • November - ALLEGRO - official inaugural concert for the launch of the Adelaide Art Orchestra held at Christ Church, North Adelaide and featuring works of Vasks, Bartok, Colgrass, Sculthorpe, Smetana and Elgar.
